Where does the future lie for retail? How and where will people be shopping in 2025 and what do retailers and retail designers need to be thinking about to make their spaces work?

These are just some of the questions that Tom Cartledge, CEO, put to two leading figures from the world of retail and retail design as part of a recent conversation on the future of retail recorded for a new podcast series.

With over 30 years of experience as an Architect, Urban Designer and Masterplanner, Simon Bee is one of Benoy’s most senior and best travelled creatives. He has worked in most of our studios across the world and influenced many of our most iconic projects, including the innovative Yas Island Masterplan in Abu Dhabi, The Beach in Dubai and the MediaCity UK development in Manchester, UK.

Simon Forster was previously the Managing Director/CEO of Selfridges and brings over 25 years’ experience working across global retail.

Commenting, Tom Cartledge said: Whether it’s an airport, a town centre, a mixed-use project, a stadium or a city, here at Benoy, we continue to draw inspiration from our 77-year old DNA as retail place makers. Designing retail places has taught us the art of creating economically successful, socially inclusive and, now, environmentally sustainable places – those rules apply across any places where people come together.

I wanted to hear from Simon and Simon what they’ve learned from long careers working at the cutting edge of retail, and where they see the big trends of the future.’
