Benoy is excited to share a first look inside the recently renovated Xinyuanhua Department Store. Located within a former government compound, the centre commonly known as the ‘Scenic Mall’ sits within close proximity to the famous West Lake in Hangzhou, China.
Appointed as the Interior Designer, Benoy undertook a scope covering 6,000 m² across the first and second floors and was tasked with designing a bespoke installation for the scheme.
With a particular focus on creating a boutique setting for domestic designer brands in the city, the renovation has paid close attention to centre’s location and integrating custom design pieces to the Department Store. Drawing inspiration from the city’s West Lake, the design concept reflects how the area’s scenery changes from dawn to dusk.
Not only lending their design expertise to the retail interiors, Benoy’s Team created the main art installation featured in the central atrium.
Made of a series of suspended metal rings, the installation references ‘floating lotus leaves’ and extends the design of the main showcase space on the first floor into the open atrium.
“Exploration of spaces is high-lighted by Art, retail fixtures and furniture and connects the retail space together creating a unique hub to house and display young fashion and lifestyle products.” said Simon Wong, Director at Benoy.
Xinyuanhua Department Store joins Benoy’s completed Hangzhou Tower 501 Plaza which also recently opened in the city.
