Benoy is proud to celebrate the official opening of Changsha International Finance Square (IFS), a prominent mixed-use development in the heart of Changsha, China. Benoy is the Masterplanner, Retail Architect and Retail Interior Designer for the scheme developed by The Wharf Holdings (Wharf).
Covering a total development area of 1,026,000m2, Changsha IFS is located along the Furong District’s West Jiefang Road in the core of the Central Business District.
Changsha IFS’ prominent location sees it act as an extension to the one of the busiest pedestrian streets in China – Huang Xing Pedestrian Shopping Street – which sits opposite the development. Notably, the retail-led scheme also forms the longest ‘Street’ experience in the Wharf portfolio, with a retail street frontage of more than 700m.
As a new retail landmark for Changsha, over 400 shops are featured throughout the retail podium which covers 230,000m2. From Entertainment to Lifestyle, Retail, Culture and Food and Beverage, the offer creates a one-stop destination for visitors. The development will also play host to a changing array of exhibitions, cultural activities and festivals as it positions itself as a community hub for Changsha.
As part of the opening international artist KAWS unveiled his first permanent giant sculpture in Greater China – which has been positioned above a main entrance of Changsha IFS. The installation interfaces with the development’s rooftop sculpture garden which sits above the retail podium.
As a large-scale, integrated development, Benoy’s retail podium supports the development’s two towers which soar to 452m and 315m, the former being the tallest building in the Hunan province. Ensuring ultimate connectivity and high footfalls, the scheme is also connected to an underground metro interchange hub.
Changsha IFS is the largest of the three IFS projects which Benoy has delivered for major Hong Kong property company Wharf in mainland China. Chengdu IFS and Chongqing IFS opened to the public in 2014 and 2017 respectively.
