Robert Bishop, Director — Head of Europe Studio, attended the opening of Benoy’s latest European project, Riga Akropole last night. The 98,000 m² scheme, which is a new mixed-use, retail and leisure development in Latvia offers an identity and a sense of local distinctiveness.
The centre is located on the site of a former porcelain factory, which inspired the language and personality for the development. Materials reclaimed from the factory, including bricks, iron columns, pottery and molds were incorporated into the design.
“The rich heritage and history of the site for Riga Akropole provided a perfect opportunity to create a destination with local distinctiveness, using the language of the pottery factory and the ceramics in interesting and unexpected ways, a gift for our design team. Using the language and reclaimed materials and objects, we were able to create a memorable and unique experience for Akropolis’s first retail destination in Riga.” Jason Clark — Senior Associate Director, Benoy.
