MIMOSA FILINVEST MALLS, located in the heart of the Clark Freeport Zone in the Philippines, has been awarded Best Interior Design — Retail Category at the BCI Asia Interior Design Awards 2020.
The BCI Asia Interior Design Awards seeks to recognise great interior architectural designs that stand out aesthetically, functionally and ergonomically. The competition aims to generate awareness towards responsible designs (human, economic, environmental, ethical) and the importance of good design in our society.
The project is located in the city of Angeles to the north of Metro Manila, in a former military base currently being developed as a new airport and leisure destination. Mimosa Filinvest Malls will be a significant retail attraction within the overall masterplan.
In collaboration with developer Filinvest Land, Benoy have developed an inspiring architectural design fully integrated within the natural beauty of this green site to create an exciting destination under the treetop canopies, offering a place to explore, relax, dine and be entertained in a truly lush, green environment.
Steve Barnes, Director of Design at Benoy Hong Kong, shares:
“Working with Filinvest Land, Benoy created this indoor-outdoor mall design to be fully integrated with its natural surroundings, celebrating the views of the landscape and embracing existing mimosa trees, which are carefully preserved throughout the building. The result is a curated customer journey through a series of open streetscapes and more intimate courtyard spaces where enjoyment of the mimosa trees is central to the design. This unique shopping, dining and leisure experience under the treetop canopies is set to become the leading retail destination in Clark City.”
Three main retail avenues converge into a central ‘Celebration Plaza’ which is full of mimosa trees and surrounded by an elevated tree walk along the shop fronts and facing open views of the surrounding green landscape.
Natural materials, greenery and open streets and entrances create an inviting exchange between indoors and outdoors and welcome shoppers into this lifestyle mall, where the interior journey connects naturally to the architectural narrative and reflects a language inspired by the mimosa.
This is seen through the direct connection of exterior paving continuing into the open retail avenues and more living landscaping integrated into interior balconies, streetscapes and courtyard spaces. Natural timber, stone and embedded environmental graphics complete the interior in a unified design vision where vibrant urban street retail is balanced with soft greenery, natural light and material warmth and where customers are always connected to the landscape in this unique retail experience and lifestyle mall destination.
Inspired by the tropical beauty of the mimosa, the mall exudes the feel of a leisure holiday destination and provides a delightful sense of escapism from the rigours of everyday life, and is set to become the leading lifestyle destination in the region.
