The opening ceremony of Chengdu Grand Shopping Centre B held recently, was attended by Benoy Associate Directors Xu Chunming and Zeng Zhaohua, who were invited on behalf of the Benoy team to attend the ceremony, along with guests including representatives of China Grand Enterprises, Grand Real Estate Group and Grand Business Group, plus other stakeholders from the tech sector.
Chengdu Grand Shopping Centre is the first shopping centre deployed by Grand Business Group in the southwest China market. Since the completion of project A in 2020, the recent opening of project B marks the beginning of the second chapter of the Chengdu Grand Shopping Centre, created by Benoy for Generation Z. This urban complex, with a total size of 280,000m2, is about to become the ‘New Centre of Tianfu Central Axis’. Benoy’s involvement included the architectural optimisation of an already topped-out commercial plan, as well as the development of the interior design for this futuristic retail space.
Whereas Chengdu Grand Shopping Centre A is a ‘lifestyle centre’, Chengdu Grand Shopping Centre B is oriented towards young people, positioned as more of a ‘fashion centre’. The design of Chengdu Grand Shopping Centre B continues the concept of growth and has been upgraded in all aspects of spatial design. The project is also seamlessly connected to the subway, which further enhances its convenience and accessibility.
The central theme of Chengdu Grand Shopping Centre B is ‘Vitality’. When new retail becomes mainstream, the creation of open and social spaces works to attract younger customers. Within the new development, unique glass surface and dome structures greatly improve spatial permeability. The bold use of purple and gold creates an ambient blend of commerciality and creativity, while the connecting channel makes full use of lighting to create a cool atmosphere. And strolling along the elegant ceiling flowline from the entrance to the atrium area, people are exposed to an exquisite internal space, with sunshine spilling through the skylight to enrich the colour schemes and gradations.
Chengdu Grand Shopping Centre B and Chengdu Grand Shopping Centre A are situated just across the street from one another, connected by an underground channel accessible via the subway exit of Huafu Avenue. The design within the channel also features cool sound and light elements, creating a high-tech atmosphere and experience for shoppers.
Chengdu Grand Shopping Centre A and Chengdu Grand Shopping Centre B are intentionally differentiated and together create a high-quality social space in the south of the city. They also integrate international cosmetics, fashion retail, selected gourmet food, all-weather dining, sports and entertainment, lifestyle, and Haobaike boutique supermarkets. With rich product lines, diversified brand portfolios, effective space utilisation and shared customer traffic, the centres will offer an enhanced retail proposition, creating trends in lifestyle for the young people of Chengdu, and providing a unique leisure shopping experience.
