Western Equity Investment Fund Headquarters Project achieves LEED Platinum Certification

The Western Fund Investment Building funded and built by Chengdu Tianfu Huazhen Engineering Project Management Co., Ltd. (part of Sichuan Zhenxing Industrial City Development Real Estate Co, Ltd.), was recently awarded LEED v4 (Design and Construction: Code and Shell Development) Platinum Certification. Benoy’s Shanghai team provided the masterplanning and architectural design for the Western Equity Investment Fund Headquarters Base Project.

Certified by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), projects are assessed in areas such as water conservation, energy and atmosphere, and indoor environmental quality. The Western Equity Investment Fund Headquarters Base Project meets every requirement in satisfactory to excellent standards. Once operational, the project will also apply for domestic 3‑Star Green Building Label Certification and LEED O+M (Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance) Platinum Certification. The domestic 3‑Star Green Building Label Certification is the highest certification standard available for green buildings in China, while the LEED Platinum Certification represents the highest level of the world’s most widely recognised green building certification assessment system.

Located in the Central Business District (CBD) of Chengdu Tianfu New Area and serving as a world-oriented ecological CBP (Central Business Park), the project will function as a​“dual-core” urban area — to boost the southward expansion and development of Chengdu as a city-level centre. Given the favourable location, the project is destined to serve as an iconic gateway to the city.

The Western Equity Investment Fund Headquarters Base Project comprises a building with a net land area of 10,871.91 m², a gross floor area of 162,000 m², and a construction height of 199.9 m, with 42 floors above ground and 5 floors below ground. The office tower, covering an area of 102,000 m², includes a super-class mixed-use eco-office (including a convention centre, dual innovation incubator and other office facilities), a commercial area of 21,000 m², and an underground parking and civil air defense area covering 39,200 m². 

The design is based on people-oriented philosophy. It advocates the concept of green, ecological and energy-saving construction, and highlights intelligence, humanism, individualism, freedom and efficiency. The project has adopted green construction techniques through an improved thermal performance of the building envelope, utilisation of unconventional water sources, energy-efficient facilities, intelligent monitoring systems and vertical, three-dimensional greening. The building combines a refined simulation of light, thermal, sound, and wind environment to create a more comfortable and healthy office environment and to become a model for green, low-carbon office buildings in the Tianfu New Area.

The design is inspired by the history, culture and natural scenery of Chengdu. The unique scenery, mountains and streetscapes of Chengdu are integrated into the design of the tower and the podium. These elements are connected in a vertical and three-dimensional series to create a natural, relaxing, and vibrant experience that feels like Chengdu. The podium illustrates a scattered street and lane garden, the sky lobby is reminiscent of ascending the mountain road step by step, and the office tower takes its place as a beautiful part of the scenery of the Tianfu New Area.
