The grand ceremony of the newly launched MOHO was recently held last month. As Hopson Commercial’s first high-end product line project, MOHO has received much attention and support from different parties. Benoy’s leadership team and interior designers of the project, Emi Wang, Yifan Huang, Roger Chen and Super Zhang were invited to attend the ceremony and witness the launch of Benoy Shanghai Studio’s first completed project to mark the beginning of 2023.
MOHO is situated at the intersection of Jiangning Road, Changping Road and North Shaanxi Road in the centre of Jing’an District, the core district of Shanghai. While the West Nanjing Road commercial area is centred on luxury, MOHO focuses on the latest fashion trends.
This new urban cultural hub will serve as a new fashion landmark and compete with the already established commercial complexes on West Nanjing Road. The total volume is approximately 180,000 m², including an 80,000 m² shopping mall, a 50,000 m² smart office building and a 50,000 m² high-end serviced apartment residence.
Benoy delivered the full interior design for the project. In the design of indoor commercial spaces, the interlacing geometric shapes and three-dimensional spatial layout are like mountains and valleys.
Inspired by City Garden, the project explores a 24-hour urban oasis ecological concept, blending commerce with nature. Greenery such as trees, flowers and ferns are planted vertically in indoor spaces from the ground in atriums, up the walls, to the ceiling. Mountain rocks, forests, stars and other nature-inspired elements are also interpreted into the design using modern materials. The transparent dome on top reinforced MOHO’s City Garden, offering shoppers a scenic garden paradise filled with natural sunlight.
In the interior design of the office area, clear lines and elements with sharp edges are used to represent the spirit of “white-collar workers in the magic city”. MOHO is designed for people to shop, work and experience the excitement of moving around and enjoying the different views at every step.
The design is also a neat blend of Jiangning Road’s culture and heritage, and the new Shikumen Lane architectural style—an intelligent reinterpretation of the past and present. By utilising a unique array of elements such as Shanghainese culture, fashion, art, modern design, natural aesthetics and digital infrastructure, MOHO delivers the community with a brand new and premium experience.
As the first completed project of Hopson Commercial’s high-end product line, MOHO not only has a strategic location advantage and unique landscape architecture but also features distinctive commercial characteristics in terms of business positioning. Inspired by the ”art of enriching lifestyle”, MOHO has developed four original brands — MOHO BEAUTÉ for beauty makeup, MOHO MARCHÉ for high-end dining and socialising, IDÉE LABO for experimental space, and MOHO super realistic virtual idol as MOHO’s mascot. With over 50 first stores of fashion brands in operation, MOHO continues to deliver a vibrant new business model and unique experiential consumer experience that targets different shoppers.
MOHO presents a cocktail of fashion, aesthetics, green architecture, and Chinese culture into an unforgettable retail experience. The innovative commercial spaces not only connect Shanghai’s historical, cultural and artistic roots, but they also recreate and carry these traditions forward.
