Raffles City Shenzhen, a retail-led mixed-use commercial complex designed by Benoy, is marking its 6th anniversary. To commemorate this milestone, representatives from the designers, tenants, and the resident community of Raffles City Shenzhen unite in a video entitled “Embracing the Leisurely Lifestyle in Shenzhen” to share their memorable experiences and sentiments about the development. As the creative force behind the architecture, interior design, and master planning of the development, Benoy explains the design concept that distinguishes this extraordinary complex.

Redefining the Commercial Complex
Raffles City Shenzhen serves as an excellent gateway to discover the vibrant city of Shenzhen and the Nanshan District. Since its establishment, the complex has seamlessly become an integral part of people’s lives, providing a multifunctional hub for shopping, working, and living. By embracing the tranquil green spaces and landscapes surrounding it, Raffles City Shenzhen enhances the overall experience for both residents and visitors.
Design Concept: Harmonizing Nature and the Urban Landscape
The design concept of Raffles City Shenzhen harmoniously blends the commercial complex with the surrounding public spaces.
Inspired by the organic growth of the cityscape and the nearby park, the Benoy design team infused natural and fluid lines into the architecture and interior. This approach resulted in a visually captivating and cohesive identity that seamlessly integrates with the surrounding environment. Additionally, the masterplan pays homage to the city’s context by establishing a strong connection with the park and skilfully blending Raffles City Shenzhen into the fabric of the city.
Kali highlighted how the interior design is envisioned as a blooming calla lily flower amidst a lush field. This concept is beautifully reflected in the abundant presence of natural greenery throughout the mall. The design goes beyond the traditional purpose of a commercial space centred solely around material consumption. Instead, it aims to provide a space where individuals can actively engage with and connect to the natural environment, promoting their overall sense of wellbeing.
