New Project: Sanya Gree United Central Business District

Designing a Coastal Oasis: Sanya Gree United CBD Project

Drawing on the concept of the ocean — a source of life to the city and a place in people’s hearts as a playground for sports and adventure, Benoy leads the design of the Sanya Gree United Central Business District project, striving to create a brand-new living style while respecting its natural surroundings.

Located opposite to Phoenix Island, one of the most affluent coastal areas in Sanya, Hainan, Sanya Gree United Central Business District combines the unparalleled sea views of Sanya Bay with great accessibility via seaports and bridges that connect the cape within 20 minutes.

The project is intended to be an iconic tourist destination and commercial complex, making Sanya an ideal place for vacation and leisure for tourists and locals.

Harmonizing Nature and Retail Architecture: 168,700m² of Coastal Elegance

The 168,700m² building area is comprised of a four-storey 300-meter-long podium as the shopping mall and an office tower. Set amidst the lush greenery and azure waters, our vision is to maximise the natural environment and retail architecture.

Sailing into Architectural Beauty

Inspired by Sanya’s rich sailing culture, the design concept captures the moment the boat touches the water, with the tower mimicking a majestic sail standing tall against the sky. The top of the tower’s glass box-like appearance is designed to replicate the look of pebbles caught in the ocean.

It blends into the sky as it contains green terraces and groove gardens. For the podium, we applied several visual linkages to create permeable connections from the city to the seas, breaking down the mass with the middle atrium and visual corridors.

A Wave-Inspired Architectural Masterpiece

To reflect the oceanic characteristics and Sanya’s scenic beauty, we mimicked the movement of the water and waves with wave-like architectural language. From the seaside, the wave-shaped canopy provides visitors protection from the elements.

On the ground, it offers a covered pedestrian street with green landscaping. From the city side, the angular wave-shape building is designed to highlight the skyline of the podium, echoing the seaside façade design.

Viewed from different angles, the overall wave-like architecture merges the ocean, the island and the city seamlessly into one breathtaking coastal frontage. The placement of every structure and design element has been carefully considered to contribute to Sanya’s scenery and maximise the visitors’ tranquil and unique retail experience.

Leading the Way in Sustainable Architecture

At Benoy, sustainable architecture is at the front and center of new green buildings and retrofit projects. The project adopted a comprehensive environmental strategy to meet the national two-star green building standard.

Through every step of the project, sustainability aspects such as material selection, construction waste management and operational waste management are thoroughly considered.

Additionally, skylights will be introduced to invite natural lighting, a green roof will be built to reduce solar gain, and trees will be planted to help reduce noise. To provide a more comfortable temperature for users, systems such as stormwater collection, advanced metering and smart control technology will be included in the infrastructure.

Phoenix Island’s Iconic Destination: Sanya Gree United CBD

Sanya Gree United Central Business District is set to become a new landmark and hub for Phoenix Island. Featuring a huge rooftop garden and outdoor terraces, it will become a must-visit destination for visitors to engage and enjoy unadulterated views of Sanya.
