Blending of art, culture, and urban renewal
Benoy is excited to share the Macau rooftop rejuvenation project, located in the heart of Macau’s UNESCO-listed Historic Centre. After a summer of collaboration with talented student interns, the design for the rooftops of three heritage low-rise buildings has been finalized. The project, developed by China Construction Engineering (Macau) Company Limited, now moves into its final painting phase.
The interns worked in small groups to develop their own design concepts. Guided by Benoy’s senior designers, they learned how to blend art, architecture, and cultural heritage. Their efforts culminated in the selection of a final design, marking a significant milestone in the project’s goal: to preserve and celebrate Macau’s rich history while integrating it with modern urban development.
The vibrant murals, visible from iconic locations such as M8 Macau, provide a fresh perspective on Macau’s cultural legacy, bridging the city’s historic past with its evolving cityscape.
Culture meets creativity
Drawing inspiration from Macau’s unique fusion of Chinese and Portuguese influences, the artwork seamlessly unites art, architecture, and history. These murals are designed to provide an engaging experience, encouraging visitors to capture and share their moments, enhancing the area’s Instagrammable appeal.
Playful elements inspired by Macau’s leisure and entertainment industry invite viewers to delve into the city’s rich cultural narrative.
Urban Renewal and Public
Beyond being an artistic endeavour, the murals are integral to Macau’s broader urban renewal efforts. By merging traditional cultural elements with contemporary design, the artwork helps reconnect new generations and visitors to Macau’s storied past. Visible from various vantage points across the city, these murals forge a lasting link between Macau’s historical significance and its vibrant future.
