Located at a high-traffic junction in Shanghai’s core business area, the project needed to integrate two department stores’ underground levels, connect their upper floors, and link with three subway lines. The design had to balance urban connectivity with internal functionality, creating a space that bridges the city and invites public engagement.
A flexible spatial framework was introduced to meet diverse business needs and create culturally rich, engaging spaces. The design featured a light, breathable façade that blurred the boundary between the city and the commercial area, symbolizing Shanghai’s dynamic energy. The result was an urban bridge externally and a welcoming public living room internally, blending leisure and entertainment.
The transformation established a multifunctional hub that seamlessly connects urban elements while enhancing the retail experience. The flowing façade invigorates the district’s vibrancy, embodying the city’s ceaseless energy. The site has become a landmark destination, merging local culture with contemporary urban design.
