Challenge
CF Rideau Centre underwent an extensive four-level renovation and expansion propelling the property as the region’s definitive contemporary retail destination.
Solution
Signature geometric architectural forms highlight the renovated portions of the mall, while organic shapes distinguish the expansion areas. In the expansion, clear glass balustrades around concentric well openings allow natural light to cascade from the top level to the lower level, bathing the mall in luminescence.
Result
The project was completed in 2016. The project won an ICSC Maple Leaf Silver and a 2017 Ottawa Urban Design Award.
