The challenge was to create a dynamic new dining hall in a major downtown retail center in Ottawa, undergoing a full renovation. Situated just below the luxury retailer Nordstrom, the dining hall had to look equally upscale.
The approach was to create a dining environment with a more sophisticated restaurant feel than a conventional food court. Emphasis was placed on a minimal palette, high-quality materials, lighting design and ceiling detail.
The new dining hall has a decidedly stylish vibe. The dramatic ceiling and lighting design more than compensate for the absence of daylight. For a space with room for 850 diners, there is a surprising sense of intimacy. Custom wall treatments featuring geographical references maintain a strong connection with the locals.
