Our principal challenge was to plan a multilevel retail podium at the heart of a new residential mixed-use development in Markham’s downtown district. In addition, we were tasked with providing retailers with pre-designed storefronts built by the landlord, plus opportunities for expression and client engagement.
Our response centered on balancing tenant autonomy with a strong base. We facilitated effective visual communication and collaboration across the developer’s team while developing planning and design guidelines to establish architectural identity.
In collaboration with the developer, we oversaw planning, leasing studies, and storefront development. Signage and patio design opportunities were integrated into the storefront façades, enabling effective tenant expression while maintaining consistent identity across this growing mixed-use community. This approach to the storefront designed facilitated leasing particularly during the Covid 19 pandemic.
