Challenge

A highly visible wayfinding scheme with a strong trail of totems to encourage visitor flow and engagement

Solution

The redevelopment of the former Duke of York’s headquarters on the King’s Road, London, created a dynamic new public realm and mixed-use retail destination. We were tasked with designing a wayfinding scheme, aligned to the square’s community brand and retail-oriented economy, that would generate footfall and create a sense of arrival and place. Our scheme also had to promote the overall offer to visitors and residents, while improving pedestrian flow to all areas. Following a comprehensive wayfinding and branding analysis, we introduced information totems to provide a clear trail through the development. The system incorporates comprehensive directional information and a map to deliver appropriate style and function, plus flexible what’s on’ zones that can be updated through the year.

Project is now live.
