Our brief was to design an outdoor work and entertainment space in Ealing, West London, that would create an enhanced, multipurpose environment for corporate tenants. With a core focus on mental wellbeing, the new roof terrace had to create a sense of serenity and calm, enabling relaxation and connection with nature. The key challenge was to transform a drab existing office asset, with limited opportunities for planting, into meaningful green outdoor workspace.
Our design solution enabled the creation of diverse flexible spaces, allowing for a range of functions. We created a number of small, intimate nooks, offering privacy while providing views of the surrounding urban landscape. We also employed a biodiverse and visually appealing plant palette, suited to the restricted planting conditions, to achieve quality rooftop greenspace.
The new terrace design provides flexible and lush outdoor spaces for multiple activities. With social interaction at the heart of the design ideology, it’s a space where people can meet in groups or converse in private. The biodiverse and easy-to-maintain planting scheme has created a rich green outdoor environment which, together with unique views of London, provides opportunities for reflection and promotes a sense of wellbeing.
