Challenge
Benoy was appointed to design the passenger experience and interior design of the second phase of Incheon International Airport’s Terminal 2. The scope included improvement of the existing passenger experience within the first phase of the terminal (opened 2017) in order to create a seamless transition to the new project. Benoy was tasked to design 5 key passenger spaces within the new phase: an extension to the Check-in Hall, the key commercial court, the departure concourse, departure lounge and extension to the arrival hall.
Solution
Each stage of the passenger journey was studied to understand how the physical environment could be crafted to enhance the overall experience of the airport. Event spaces, new retail typologies, food and beverage, immersive digital environments, an extensive arts programme, rest and work zones and lush landscaping have been curated to offer the passengers a transformative flying experience.
Result
Benoy created a concept that harnessed the positive emotions relating to travel. The interior design language will blend cloud like shapes with fluid materials and geometry to enhance a thoroughly intuitive experience for the visitor. A passenger journey that blends the digital and physical relationship for a world-class next generation smart airport, due to open 2023.
