Our client required concept and schematic design for the New Toyota Complex in Zebbug, which is envisioned as a contemporary landscape sitting harmoniously within its urban setting. The brief was to create a beautiful and welcoming place to which people will want to return. We also had to generate interest for a range of visitor types and age groups, which would require the balancing of natural and historical site characteristics.
Within our design solution, we made the landscaped area fully accessible, leveraging the site’s location to create new public space for all people. Taking inspiration from local history, we devised distinct and contemporary landscape designs, embedded with elements that promote wellbeing and forge strong connections with nature. We also put forward a robust sustainability proposal to help minimise environmental impact.
The completed design concept proposes a unique yet timeless and durable scheme that will withstand daily usage and demand. It will help to create an ecologically sound and diverse public realm that preserves biodiversity and enhances the natural setting. The site will provide a new destination for residents and visitors, with landscape that’s in harmony with the local neighbourhood and wider island. And with a range of experiences on offer, it should create a compelling proposition for people of all ages and backgrounds.
