Challenge
Situated in Marseille, Benoy was asked to transform a limiting site into an innovative feature in an urban setting. We were tasked with creating a retail complex, and we had to make use of numerous floors while still achieving a viable pedestrian flow.
Solution
Moving away from the traditional box-like aesthetic of retail space, we focused on creating a flowing space to connect pedestrians between the levels. We call it a ‘vertical village’ with internal walkways inspired by the streets.
Result
Prado is one of Marseille’s most prominent shopping destinations covering 22,000m2. Blending a range of natural materials, it stands out against the urban fabric with a fresh identity. It also acts as a new public realm for the community with its open glass canopy and green space at the roof level.
