Challenge
The site originally housed large warehouse facilities surrounded by areas of woodland and agriculture. The landscaped areas have been preserved and the building has been set within a series of public gardens. A large piazza fronts the main building façade, providing an area for programmed activities throughout the year. Benoy designed a three level retail and leisure development in the city of Anseong, South Korea; with a total GLA of approx. 100,000 sqm and a total GBA, including two level basement, of approx. 287,000 sqm.
Solution
Located in Southern Gyeonggi-do, approximately one hour’s drive from Seoul, this retail and leisure development is highly visible from the busiest highway in Korea and will serve the surrounding community, as well as a larger regional base. Designed as a collection of linked buildings with unique identities, the architecture expresses a sense of permanence, exuberance and whimsy.
Result
A truly modern shopping, entertainment and dining destination, that will serve as the primary mall for Anseong, one of the fastest-growing areas of South Korea. Opened in October 2020.
