Challenge
Benoy was asked to bring a large-scale high-end leisure and retail aspect to the Suzhou Industrial Park. Covering 16 hectares, the development needed to accommodate a rich mix of uses. It is situated on the banks of Jinji Lake, and these surroundings were integral to the development.
Solution
Our design paid homage to the natural surroundings to help give the industrial-park location a new identity. To highlight Jinji Lake’s influence, we used water to form strong visual language throughout the project.
Result
With landscaped terraces, bridges and curved glass, Suzhou Center reflects the surrounding landscape that’s heavily influenced by water. It comprises retail space, commercial offices, residential accommodation and a hotel, as well as children’s attractions, a cinema and ice rink. Suzhou Center also boasts the world’s largest free-form monocoque roof structure.
