Shanghai Huamu Time Edition unveils a new era of art and retail in landmark opening
Shanghai Huamu Time Edition, with interior design and retail planning by Benoy, recently celebrated its grand opening. Representing Benoy at the event were Louise Ma, Interior Design Associate Director; Emi Wang, Head of Business Development, China; and Yifan Huang, Senior Marketing Manager, China, all of whom attended the ceremony.
Jointly developed by Poly Developments and Pudong Development Group, Shanghai Huamu Time Edition is a 400,000-square-metre urban and cultural mixed-use project located in the heart of the Lujiazui financial district. Surrounded by high-end residential areas, the complex caters to white-collar professionals, the urban middle class, and younger, dynamic customers. It offers a diverse range of cultural and artistic experiences, boutique retail shops, high-end fitness facilities, and fine dining options.
Benoy designed the 47,000-square-metre premium retail space within the complex, guided by the concept “Framed–A Fusion of Eastern and Western Commercial Art Galleries.” The interior design theme revolves around artistic presentation and framing, blending both Chinese and Western cultural elements to create a timeless, fluid atmosphere. This results in a sophisticated and dynamic retail environment akin to an art gallery, where each store feels like a doorway to a new cultural world. The seamless integration of commerce, art, and lifestyle allows customers to meet their retail needs while also engaging in a more enriching experience that resonates on a deeper level, promoting well-being.
Shanghai Huamu Time Edition is surrounded by iconic landmarks such as the Shanghai Museum East Hall, Shanghai Library East Hall, Shanghai Science & Technology Museum, Oriental Art Centre, and Century Park. The development integrates office buildings, retail spaces, and the Shanghai Museum East Hall, all connected by a 7,000-square-metre central plaza. This plaza seamlessly links three 180-metre-high Grade A office towers, the 47,000-square-metre boutique retail space, and the museum.
This collaborative effort between Benoy and KPF, who provided the architectural services, highlights a harmonious fusion of architecture, interior design, and cultural spaces, creating a cohesive environment where work, life, and culture coexist dynamically.
At its grand opening, Huamu Time Edition introduced a world-class art gallery and flagship stores from lifestyle, entertainment, and dining brands to Shanghai. Positioned as a "destination" combining elegance, art, adventure, and inspiration, the grand opening included the debut exhibition of international artists, the POIZON trend market, and China's first XR immersive exhibition, "Whale Wonder: A Wonderful Night of Terracotta Warriors." As a key sub-venue of the 2024 Shanghai International Light Festival, the space hosted a series of light shows and performances, offering a visual spectacle for both locals and visitors alike.
Leveraging its unique location, Huamu Time Edition aims to continue evolving into the next generation of destinations, where art and culture elevate the commercial experience.
